Nelson Jardim | We will try and take our home form on the road

Nelson Jardim

Nelson Jardim is hopeful that his Newport County side can continue their positive momentum as they prepare to face Bradford City on Monday night (8pm).

The Exiles have enjoyed an impressive week in League Two, earning back-to-back victories against promotion contenders Crewe Alexandra and Salford City.

With 15 points from nine matches and 15 goals scored, County are aiming for a third successive win in a row.

However, Jardim remains focused on maintaining this upward trajectory as his team faces the tough challenge of a trip to Valley Parade.

“It’s going to be another tough game for us,” said the Portuguese.

“We will try and take our home form on the road. For us, it’s all about progress, improvement and consistency. It’s down to us now over the next few games to keep on going and improving on the areas we need too.

“We come into the game on Monday with two real good wins, two important wins for us. But we know what’s coming up for us as a team. It’s a very tough month ahead, facing top opposition and we know we have to be ready for each game as it comes.

“If you had said to be me at the start of the season where we are now, I cannot lie, I would have taken it. We don’t look at the league table so early on though, we are just focused on what we are doing and how we can get better.

“There are many aspects of our performance that we need to improve on and it’s my job to focus on that.

“We are constantly looking for consistency in our performances and results. But consistency doesn’t mean that you have to draw games, I like to consistently be winning games. That’s what all coaches like me are looking for.

"It’s what I believe in; the principle is always to win games, not just to settle for a point.”

Bradford City head into Monday night’s clash against the Exiles sitting in 13th place with 12 points.

With a mixed start to the season - three wins, three draws, and three losses - the Bantams have experienced an inconsistent run of form.

However, they'll be determined to maintain their unbeaten home record in League Two so far this campaign, using the energy of their fans at Valley Parade to their advantage.

And Jardim feels his players must embrace the midweek atmosphere in Yorkshire, urging his side to feed off the occasion.

“Our players have to be prepared for the atmosphere,” added the Exiles boss.

“It why there are here at the football club, to expose themselves to those type of grounds and crowds, it can only improve them.

“We know that we will be facing that [atmosphere] as a test and a step forward, but the boys just have to play their football and take care of what they always do.

“The support from the crowd will be big, but the players can only utilise that to their advantage.”
