Nelson Jardim | We were always trying to find the goal

Head coach Nelson Jardim believes his side’s draw against promotion-chasing Bradford City is a step in the 'right direction', despite failing to break down the 10-men Bantams.

The Exiles extended their unbeaten run to six games after their goalless draw at Rodney Parade, even with the visitors reduced to 10 men following Jack Shepherd’s red card in the 17th minute.

“It was a very good point, although it was also frustrating,” said Jardim.

“At the beginning we were the better team and created goal-scoring chances for ‘CBR’ and also hit the post, but we were up against a team who defend well.

“Bradford concede very few goals and they made it very hard for us. We tried everything – we changed the shape, we changed players – but they defended very well and were also a threat on the counter.

“We always had to find the balance between attacking and making sure we didn’t get caught on the counter-attack, because they are very dangerous with that.

“Overall, it felt that we were more likely to be the winner but credit to Bradford, who made it very difficult for us, so it was a good point and praise to the players because of their hard work.

“We were always trying to find the goal that would win us the game but we didn’t get it and we carry on with our good run.

“We have to focus on being six games unbeaten and it was another clean sheet. It's another step forward and we just hope we can find a way to win against Cheltenham next weekend.”
