Nelson Jardim | They took their moments well

Head coach Nelson Jardim shared his thought’s following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Notts County at Rodney Parade.

A well-taken brace from Charlie Whitaker separated the sides as the Exiles lost to the promotion-chasing Magpies.

“We knew that this was going to be a tough game because we know the quality of Notts County and where they are in the table, with the objective of promotion,” he said post-match.

“They took their moments well and we had two or three chances that we didn't take. We should be proud of the effort but it was always going to be tough against a good team.

“For moments we made it hard for them and also showed that we can play good football. It was just the decisions in the final third – we broke on the counter but the final pass was poor. Decision-making is what makes a huge difference.

“Final third decisions we've seen how many times we broke on the counter and then the final pass wasn't there. They've fought and done their best but we have to take that as we were also up against a good team.

“For periods there - the last 25 minutes of the first half - we were the better team.

“We split the possession in the second half against a team like that, so we have to be positive.”

He added: "Moving forward we know we have a tough game against Bromley ahead of us. It'll be completely different from this game because they play a different style.

“So, we have to look at ourselves and improve the way that we want to play the game. We can only back the players now to look at our performance and improve."
