Head coach Nelson Jardim praised his side’s defensive display as they battled to a well-earned draw at MK Dons.
Despite a number of chances for both sides across the 90 minutes, neither team were able to break the deadlock and had to settle for a point apiece.
Jardim was pleased to see his side end a run of five consecutive away defeats, and pick up a clean sheet on the road.
“When you get a point away from home in a match like this it's always positive, especially in this league.” he said post-match.
"But also stopping a losing run it's massive, but again we were hoping to get the job done today [be mathematically safe from relegation] and we still have to wait for Monday [at home to Walsall].
"Hopefully on Monday in front of our fans in our home we can get this done and it will be even bigger.
“We can only control what we can control, and our job is to keep the boys focused. The last couple of games we’ve conceded from set pieces and two late goals last week.
“But the players showed today that hopefully those moments are gone, and when we needed to be a proper team today, we showed that.”
The Exiles return to League Two action when they host Walsall on Easter Monday, in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
And Jardim is hoping his side can take confidence from the draw at Stadium MK as they face one of the automatic-promotion chasing teams in the division.
“Every game in the league is tough, and Monday will be no different,” he added.
“You cannot say you’re going to win or lose every game, it’s all about who turns up on the day.
“Playing Walsall will be tough because they are where they are in the table for a reason. We’ve got to be ready to go again, once more.”
