Head coach Nelson Jardim believes there is much more to come from Geoffroy Bony after the forward made his debut for Newport County at Meadow Lane.
The 19-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday's match against Notts County, just a day after he signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Bony, who has joined his younger brother Orphee at County, is the second member of the Bony family to play for the club, with Orphee impressing for the under-18s.
Jardim has been pleased with Bony’s early progress since his arrival in NP19, praising the forward's commitment and potential.
“Geoff has been working very hard, and shows how old I am getting when I heard the fans singing his dad’s song! That brought me very good memories,” said the Portuguese.
“It’s about progression for him and moving forward. His dad was a different player, he has learnt a lot from him and has good genes.
“He is a good boy, Wilfried has done a good job, and he has come full of energy. There are a lot of areas that he needs to build up, we all know that, but he has grabbed this chance with all his strength.
“You can see he can bring some extra pace to the front line but he is also a good footballer after his education [at Swansea]. He’s another option for us.”
He added: “He plays across the front and I’ve actually been testing him, playing him in different positions to get to know him better.
“He could play as a striker, a false 9, right and left, because we have seen has good pace and energy.
“We will try to find out where he feels is his best position but sometimes it’s also about what the team needs with players able to fill whatever space they are needed in.”
