Nelson Jardim | The players have to perform to their best

Nelson Jardim

Head coach Nelson Jardim provided an honest assessment following his side’s 3-0 defeat away at Doncaster Rovers.

A brace from Robert Street and a volley from Luke Molyneux condemned the Exiles to defeat in South Yorkshire.

“We were just not good enough today, it was as simple as that,” Jardim said post-match.

“The way we are conceding goals is just not good enough. We lost focus and we have to get back to the minimum level it is needed to compete. I couldn’t say that anybody had a good day.

“From the first half you could see that the competition and aggression that you need to have at this level was not there. Every 50/50 we lost, every duel we lost.

“We conceded goals from individual mistakes and that is costing us – some of the goals we are conceding are unbelievable. We lost one v one situations and you cannot have that level of performance.

"Today was nowhere near good enough. If players want to stay with us they have to perform to their best.”

The Exiles return to action on Tuesday evening as they welcome Gillingham to Rodney Parade.

And Jardim wants his side to show the reaction that is needed against the Gills.

“We need to a show a reaction,” he added.

"We need to show some desire, some aggression, even some pride. Because today wasn’t good enough, it’s as simple as that.

“We have to analyse and make sure we are stronger on Tuesday because it’s a massive game against Gillingham and we have to compete.
