Head coach Nelson Jardim admitted that his side were left to rue missed chances after their 3-2 defeat to Port Vale.
Despite taking the lead twice in the match through first-half goals from Bobby Kamwa and Cameron Evans, the Exiles were unable to hold on in the second half as Vale mounted a fight-back.
Reflecting on the performance, Jardim acknowledged that his side's inability to finish off chances proved costly.
“It’s very disappointing to lose that game, especially haven taken the lead twice,” said the Portuguese.
“We started the game well and took the lead twice, and I think we just couldn’t get that grip in the game that we had in the first half in the second.
“But when you come away to a place like this, if you do score two goals you have to make sure you win the game.
“It’s small things. We had some good chances to extend our lead but we didn’t take them. Kai had two good chances, so did Cameron Antwi, and even Bobby too.
“There are things that if we tidy up and if we had scored the third goal, and we had the chances, then the game would be different.
“We have to improve these things so when we do come away and score two goals, you do win the game.
“Overall it's disappointing, but there were positives that these boys are showing.”
The Exiles were dealt with an injury blow in the first-half as Ciaran Brennan was forced off with a shoulder injury.
He was replaced Kyle Jameson who was later sent off in the tie.
He added: “It's not ideal [Brennan injury]. We only had Aaron Wildig out and we were not expecting this but we can only look forward.
“We still have the transfer window open so let's see what we can do, but we need to see how bad Ciaran is and we still have options in the squad.
“When we lost Ciaran we had to change with the back four. After that we didn’t control the game as well as we normally do or should.”
