Nelson Jardim | It was important we showed that reaction

Nelson Jardim

Head coach Nelson Jardim was delighted with the reaction his side showed after they claimed a 3-0 win over Harrogate Town.

Goals from Cameron Evans and Courtney Baker-Richardson in the first half, followed by James Clarke's first league goal of the season, secured the Exiles' return to winning ways at Rodney Parade.

After suffering a heavy defeat to Accrington Stanley earlier in the week, Jardim was thrilled to see his side bounce back with a commanding performance, securing all three points and putting the disappointment of the past week firmly behind them.

“It was important we showed that reaction today after a tough week,” he said post-match.

“But It didn’t surprise me, we know this group of players very well and the reaction that they showed is what we expected.

“Even from when we left the field after the warm-up we felt that connection and love from the fans. It’s been a tough week but they also wanted us to put the last game behind us.

“Now we can look forward and we have 46 points, 16 clear of relegation, and now we can really say that we are in the comfort zone that we spoke about in the first week of the season.

“We can be positive and look forward, we have nine games to go and there are a lot of points to play for.

“We still want more but we have that comfort and there are things that we need to improve in terms of our quality.

“It's League Two so we needed a reaction and that win, while the team also showed we know how to play ugly when we need to.

“We are not happy with everything but I am very, very happy with the effort and the work of the players.”

He added: "The win means a lot for the club and also a lot for me. It was a tough week for everyone and the head coach always feels a stronger pain when the team loses in that way."
