Head coach Nelson Jardim admitted his side “need to be better” after they excited the Carabao Cup following a 4-1 defeat at Leyton Orient.
Goals from Dan Agyei and Diallang Jaiyesimi put Orient ahead by half-time, with Brandon Cooper and Charlie Kelman adding second-half strikes to secure a dominant victory. James Clarke netted a consolation goal for the Exiles midway through the second half.
“It was a disappointing night. I think you could see that we were trying to create something but we have problems defensively," said Jardim.
"That ugly side of the game where we were lacking and conceded four goals.
“The scoreline was probably a little bit harsh for the boys but we have to accept the outcome and do much better.
“We conceded in the first minute of the game and the last minute before half-time, which affected us but in between I think you could see we had a team trying to compete.
"I have to praise the players because they are trying to play and are making this effort to play in this style, but again we need to address this defensive side of the game."
He continued: "After their third goal we started to play much better. We got into some good areas, scored a goal and tried to get back into the game.
"We need to be better. We've got a good team here and we have to move our focus to Doncaster over the next few days."
