Nelson Jardim | I’m very satisfied with the win

Head coach Nelson Jardim took great satisfaction in the defensive performance his side displayed in Tuesday’s night 2-0 win over Gillingham.

Two first-half strikes from Matt Baker and Kyle Hudlin were enough to inspire the Exiles to their second away win of the season in Kent.

And the Portuguese was left delighted with his side’s performance after they returned to winning ways after a run of three straight defeats.

“I’m very satisfied with the win and the performance,” said Jardim.

“That win is for the fans and players, they were superb tonight. I know they've been disappointed, especially the last game, but I think they deserve this win.

"It's just over 100 fans we had here tonight, with a lot of travel, so thanks for their support.

"We knew this match would be tough, but this was the game to bounce back, the boys showed that, showed the character we need, and again we've probably been a little bit too much criticised for conceding goals.

"Coming up here and defending like we did, especially towards the end of the game, was just brilliant - everyone was up there at their best and we now have to build on this win."

He added:”Both goals were very good goals but they come after good teamwork. It was a real team performance tonight.

“The boys are always brilliant in the training ground everyday. It’s never easy going through a spell like we have done - three straight defeats - but we never give up.

“These are times where you show that character and show what you’ve really got.

“The fans need to keep sticking with us because we’re only going to get better.”
