Head coach Nelson Jardim believed his side were on top in the goalless draw against Grimsby Town but were left to rue missed chances.
The Exiles battled away for 90 minutes but were unable to find the crucial goal as Kyle Hudlin saw his penalty saved in the 59th minute.
Courtney Baker-Richardson also had a huge opportunity to seal all three points late on for Newport County after a well worked move left the striker in space to finish.
“We were the better team today. Better in terms of everything really but the main thing is to create goal scoring chances and we didn’t score," said Jardim.
"It is also the second game at home where we have missed a penalty as well. So yes, it’s frustrating but I have to focus on the performance of the team and I think we were the better team.
“We have now gone one third into the season and got twenty points with thirty odd games left to go. We have 30 games to go, how quickly can we get another 10 wins?
"It's a point and we will focus on our performances because the results won't always go for you. It was a bitter taste at the end but we are one third into the season and have 20 points, if we do the same in the other thirds then we will be okay."
The County boss reiterated his feelings about his team's performance and added: “I was pleased with the overall performance like I have mentioned today.
"The goalscoring chances were there for us and some of them were obvious. But we had to keep going and forcing chances and trying to make as many chances as possible”.
