Newport County head coach Nelson Jardim has heaped praise on defender Cameron Evans following his first EFL goal in the 2-1 victory against Crewe Alexandra.
The win at Rodney Parade marked Evans' ninth appearance for the Exiles since joining from Southern League Premier South side Taunton Town in July.
The 23-year-old has become a key figure in the team under Jardim’s leadership, consistently demonstrating his versatility across the backline.
And Jardim was particularly impressed with Evans' performance against the Railwaymen, highlighting the defender’s technical ability and game intelligence as vital ingredients for the Exiles.
“I’m really pleased for Cameron,” said Jardim.
“I’ve known him since he was 15-year-old with Swansea City Academy and he’s such a nice boy and character to work with.
“He’s a player who can play in different positions, a good leader and a team player for me and the rest of the group.
“Today was a great day for him. It was a special goal for him - his first EFL goal - so the boy deserves everything.
“Since he’s been here at the club I have nothing but good things to say about him. Sometimes players take years to have a moment like he had today, so it was a really special day for him and his family.
“I'm really proud of him. Hopefully, this is the start of him having a bright future here at the football club.”
