Michael Spellman | It felt good to finally be back on the pitch

Newport County winger Michael Spellman was delighted to make his return from injury in the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Exiles from Sunderland during the summer, was sidelined with a thigh injury just a week before the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

After an intensive rehabilitation process, Spellman finally made his comeback, entering as a substitute in the 82nd minute of Saturday’s clash at Rodney Parade.

Reflecting on his return, he said: “It felt good to finally be back on the pitch.

“It's been a tough year for me with the injuries I've had to deal with, but I’m thrilled to be back.

“Playing in front of the fans was a brilliant experience and I can’t wait for many more appearances at this club.

“Making my debut today was special, but more importantly, it was about getting the three points for the team.

“Coming away with the win was huge for us and hopefully that's the start of a positive run of games.”

The Exiles return to League Two action in quick succession tomorrow night, as they welcome Salford City to Rodney Parade.

And Spellman wants his side to build on Saturday’s win with another good performance against the Ammies.

"This win on Saturday was massive for our confidence,” added the winger.

“We need to keep building momentum, and going into Tuesday’s game against Salford, the lads are in great spirits.

“We’re here to win games, and we’ll give everything we have to make that happen."
