Matt Baker praised Newport County's impressive all-around team performance following their 2-0 victory over Gillingham on Tuesday night.
The Exiles secured their second away win of the season in Kent, thanks to first-half goals from Baker and Kyle Hudlin, marking their first win in three matches.
And the defender was proud of the collective effort from his players to earn a vital win on the road.
“It was important that we ended the run of three straight defeats,” said Baker.
“You don’t want to get into a run of losing games and losing confidence, so to come here in midweek and put that behind us is credit to all the team.
“We had to stick in the game until the final whistle. It was tough at times but I thought we stood up to the challenge very well.
“Defensively, we need to show that performance every week. We know we are capable of those performances and if we can show that every game then we’ll win games most weeks.
“Gillngham is a tough place to come to in this league, especially in midweek. I don’t think just the back four needs to take credit for that win tonight, but the whole team too. It was a real team effort.
“We deserved it too. We can look back and be really proud of that performance because it’s a big win after a big effort from everyone”
Baker found the net for the third time this season, adding to his earlier goals against Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra. He unleashed a powerful volley from Anthony Glennon’s cross to open the scoring.
And the Wales Under-21 international was delighted to get on the scoresheet once again and contribute the Exiles’ triumph.
“It was another good feeling to score again,” he added. ”To go 1-0 up and then to score a second with Hudlin’s goal was just brilliant.
“The first two seasons I didn’t score one goal, so to get three goals in eight league games this time round is really pleasing.
“I said to myself that I needed to get on the scoresheet a lot more this season, and thankfully I’ve managed to do that.
“We’re all buzzing with the win tonight and are all looking forward to Saturday against Fleetwood now.”
