With this being our Easter weekend fixture, we’ve lined up some egg-cellent tracks on this week’s Matchday Playlist. Expect an uplifting mix featuring the likes of The 1975, Stone Roses, Depeche Mode, Jefferson Airplane, Echo & The Bunnymen, Jamie T, Florence & The Machine, The Temper Trap, and more!

🎶 This week’s featured artists:

Calls It a Day – The Moonstones
This three-piece indie group from just down the road in Cardiff recently played a blistering Good Friday set at Le Pub. Their music blends retro and modern influences, drawing inspiration from artists like Matchbox Twenty, Sam Fender, and U2. Calls It a Day is their debut single, released last August, with promises of more new music on the horizon. The band — Nathan Jones (vocals), George Baker (guitar), and Charlie Mason (drums) — aim to fuse multiple genres into a signature sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

Weak Smile – Airflo
Known for emotionally resonant songwriting and atmospheric soundscapes, Airflo have been making waves on the local music scene. Weak Smile is their first release since introducing new frontman Joshua Heather. Their sound is a melting pot of noughties indie (think Bloc Party, early Coldplay) with a modern edge reminiscent of Chappaqua Wrestling and Wunderhorse. They’ve recently graced stages at Rebel Fest 2024 in Newport and the Isle of Wight Festival, as well as venues like The Louisiana (Bristol) and The Moon (Cardiff).

Bad Actor – The Fiends
A dynamic five-piece alternative/indie rock band from Swansea, The Fiends are quickly building a name for themselves through high-energy live shows and a distinctive sound that blends post-punk grit with shoegaze melodies. They’ve supported major acts like The Snuts, Peter Hook & The Light, and The Lottery Winners, and recently returned from Texas as official artists at SXSW. Their next release Lazarus drops this Friday, 25 April.
