Match Preview | Port Vale (H)

Match preview

County will look to make it four league wins on the bounce when they welcome Darren Moore’s Port Vale to Rodney Parade on Saturday afternoon.

Nelson Jardim’s team have won both of their league games at Rodney Parade so far this season, dispatching Doncaster Rovers and Accrington Stanley. They will hope to make it three for three when they welcome the Valiants to South Wales.

Pre-Match Thoughts

Nelson Jardim is cautious about Port Vale despite their mixed start to the season.

“Port Vale have a very good squad and have been unlucky so far,’’ he added. “They have some key players, some who I know like George Byers, and it’s going to be a very difficult game. It’s important that we don’t relax and aren’t complacent.’’

Opposition Form

After starting the season with a 2-0 win away at Salford on the opening weekend, Darren Moore’s Port Vale side have struggled for form in their last three matches. The Valiants have lost their last two games. First, being on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline away at Barrow, before narrowly losing to Darren Moore’s former team, Doncaster Rovers, 3-2 last weekend.

Our last match with Port Vale took place in the penultimate game of the 21/22 season, just weeks before the Staffordshire side secured promotion via the play-off final.

We took the lead in the third minute when Ryan Haynes struck home from inside the area in the third minute. The defender nearly doubled his lead later in the half, forcing a great save from Aidan Stone.

Ben Garrity would then fire home early in the second half to keep the hosts’ promotion hopes alive.

However, Finn Azaz would have other ideas, with the midfielder firing home a volley in the 72nd minute to send us back to South Wales with all three points in the bag.

Head to Head

Our first encounter with Port Vale took place all the way back in 1938. Since then, we have played each other a further 49 times. We have won 16 of those encounters, with Vale winning 16, and 20 ending in a draw.
