Speaking after Saturday’s defeat, Nelson Jardim said: “I’m really looking forward to the next game on Tuesday. I’ve told the boys to learn from Saturday but to move their focus onto Leyton Orient.

“We will be in training on Monday to work on what we got wrong today and I’m sure the players will give us another good game in three days time.

“We have to keep our record as much as we can. I prepare game by game and I just make sure I am in a position to win every game.

“So with cup games we will make sure we are there to compete and win the game.”

Leyton Orient have been proactive in the transfer market, making savvy acquisitions as they aim to build on their strong finish to last season.

New signings like Lewis Warrington from Everton and Sonny Perkins from Leeds United bring promising pedigrees, while the additions of seasoned League One players such as Sean Clare and the returning Charlie Kelman add valuable experience to Richie Wellens' squad. With these reinforcements, Orient are set to pose a formidable challenge to the Exiles this evening.

In their last outing, Orient suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Bolton Wanderers, so they'll be eager to bounce back and secure a victory on their home turf.

Remember the last time?

The last time Leyton Orient and Newport County clashed at Brisbane Road was in October 2022, a match that saw the Exiles defy expectations and end the league leaders' unbeaten start to the League Two season.

Orient dominated the early proceedings, with Charlie Kelman hitting the crossbar and Paul Smyth forcing a save from goalkeeper Nick Townsend. Despite the O's early pressure, it was Newport who took the lead when Will Evans headed in from a corner. Evans then won a penalty after being fouled by Lawrence Vigouroux, which Omar Bogle converted to double Newport's advantage.

Orient fought back with Aaron Drinan pulling one back, poking home a Tom James free-kick that rebounded off the post. However, Newport held on to claim a remarkable victory, ending a six-game winless streak in all competitions. The win lifted Newport to 16th in the table, while Orient's lead at the top was cut to just two points.
