Kyle Jameson | We’ve got to be up for it

KYLE JAMESON

Kyle Jameson is urging Newport County to build on their recent performances as they prepare to take on Harrogate Town tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

The Exiles travel north for the second-consecutive time this week looking to bounce back after a defeat to Bradford City on Monday.

Despite the setback at Valley Parade, County displayed plenty of promise, creating numerous opportunities, with Kyle Hudlin scoring for the second time in as many games and captain Aaron Wildig leading the charge from midfield.

While the loss ended County’s three-game unbeaten run, the defender is determined for his side to maintain the same intensity and energy that has defined their recent performances.

“I think the new style of football that has been implemented this season really suits me, and the whole squad have bought into it,” Jameson explained.

“Overall, it's been a promising start, but there’s also a sense of frustration. In a few games, we deserved more based on our performances - we could have drawn or even won a few more games.

“We always review our games to see where we can improve. The last two games before Bradford were really positive, and we want to continue those types of performances.

“While we're pleased with our start, we know we can push on and achieve even more.”

On Saturday’s test, the defender added: “We know Harrogate are a good side and we’ve got to be up for it. We take every game as it comes in this league and we see every game as a must win.

“You’ve got to go into every game with the target of getting three points. We have to have the mentality of going out to win games of football.

“So far drawing games has obviously been tough but if we can get a couple of draws and the rest wins, then I think we will be in a good place going forward.

“Clean sheets have also been hard to come by too, and it’s something I love as defender.

“A clean sheet gives you confidence going into games and the more clean sheets you can get across the season the better.

“This season we’ve been scoring a lot of goals which has been good but conceding at the other end. It’s now down to us as defenders to keep a clean sheet and get more points on the board.”
