Kieron Evans | It should be a good game for us

Midfielder Kieron Evans is determined for Newport County to return to winning ways this weekend as they prepare to host Carlisle United at Rodney Parade.

The Exiles enter the match on the back of an impressive fightback against AFC Wimbledon in midweek, with Evans keen to build that positive performance.

“It should be a good game for us," said the Cardiff City loanee.

“We know how important it is for us, and we know it’s a big game for them, but we’re only focusing on our position.

“We want to build on the last few matches and continue progressing.

“Tuesday was a good point. We knew they were a dangerous side from set plays, and we got punished for it, giving away two soft goals.

"Other than the first 20 minutes, I thought we controlled the game, continuing to play our way, and in the end, we got something out of it, which was probably a fair result.

“Perhaps if we hadn’t gone two down so early, we could have gone on to win comfortably, but it’s another point away from home for us.

“I think the season is getting better. At the start of the season, when I came in, we were falling short and not picking up any draws. Whereas now, we aren’t conceding as much, and we’re drawing some games, which is better than picking up losses.

“Tuesday night was a prime example - despite going two-nil down, we stuck together and got a point, which sets us up nicely for Saturday against Carlisle.

“That’s a game where we want three points”
