Kai Whitmore savoured his first league goal as he helped Newport County to a comeback win over Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
The midfielder struck home a delightful finish in the second half after Bobby Kamwa cancelled out an earlier strike from Owen Bailey.
Matt Baker then netted a winning strike for County when he brought up another landmark goal - his first of his professional career.
But Whitmore says his maiden league goal against Rovers in front of the Amber Army was a big moment in his professional career.
“I was absolutely delighted to make my home debut,” said Whitmore.
“To start the game, to score and to win man of the match, I couldn’t have asked for a better day.
“As soon as the space opened up in front of me I just had one thing on my mind and that was to shoot. It was one of the best strikes I’ve hit and fortunately it went in.
“The atmosphere at Rodney Parade was unreal and I really enjoyed the occasion.
“The fans were the 12th man and they really drove us over the line in the end.
“I’m delighted we got the win for the fans on Saturday as their support towards me and the team has brilliant so far."
He continued: “Hopefully, I can keep starting games now and keep on improving.
“We’ve got a great group of players here and we are really starting to gel together.
“Saturday was a massive result for us to kick-start our season and it’s all about building on that now going into Accrington Stanley.”
