Newport County is excited to announce the signing of Joe Thomas, subject to EFL approval.
The former Swansea City under-23s player joins the Exiles on a two-year deal stretching to June 2026.
The 22-year-old joined the Swans’ academy set-up from Cambrian & Clydach in January 2022, having hit the ground running with the Cymru South side.
Despite operating as a defender, Thomas has a renowned record of scoring goals from right-back, proving effective in the attacking and defensive needs of the role.
Thomas had been part of Cambrian & Clydach’s academy since he was 12 years old.
He left the Rhondda club with six assists to his name – the highest in the Cymru South in his final season, while scoring a remarkable hat-trick from right-back in a league victory over Taffs Well.
Upon his transfer to Swansea, the Jacks fought off tough competition to sign the youngster after he was scouted by 13 Premier League and Football League clubs.
Last season, Thomas was a regular for the club’s under-23s side, netting several goals, and now is determined to build on a strong start to his professional career here in NP19.
“I’m delighted to be joining the club and I’m looking forward to getting started,” said Thomas after signing the deal.
“Talks have been going on for a few weeks now and I’m excited for what’s to come.
“I’m quite attacking as a player, but i also like to do the defensive part as well.
“I’m just looking to kick on now and continue to build this season.”
Welcome to the club, Joe!
