Jamie Miley was delighted to mark his return from injury with three points as the Newport County overcame Gillingham on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old, who joined on loan from Newcastle United this summer, had been sidelined for the last nine matches following an injury sustained during the Exiles’ EFL Trophy defeat to Cheltenham Town in September.
Miley returned to action as one of four changes made by head coach Nelson Jardim, taking up a midfield role alongside Aaron Wildig and Bryn Morris.
The No. 16 played a vital part in the 2-0 victory, with goals from Matt Baker and Kyle Hudlin securing County’s second away win of the season.
And Miley was delighted to be back amongst the action after a frustrating period on the sidelines.
“It felt good to be out there, it’s been a long time coming,” said the midfielder.
“It’s been a frustrating time with injury over the last few weeks, but I was delighted to get back out on the pitch and get the three points.
“The game was a bit different to my first game against Cheltenham in the EFL Trophy, a lot more second balls and a bit of back and fourth, but you’ve got to get used to that as a midfielder.
“We had to work really hard for that win tonight, but It was throughly deserved for everyone.”
He added: "I found out yesterday morning (Monday) that I knew I was going to be playing.
“I texted my family straight away, they were really pleased and they said they would be watching.
“I got a taste for what it’s like tonight to play in League Two and I want to keep my place in the team going forward.
“As a team, we're just all excited for the next game now against Fleetwood.”
