A number of Newport County players were in action for their countries during the recent international break.
Matt Baker captained the Wales Under-21s in a challenging 4-2 friendly defeat against Slovakia in Dunajska Streda on Tuesday evening, playing the full 90 minutes.
Wales initially took the lead in the 14th minute when Oli Hammond scored his second international goal. However, Slovakia quickly equalised through Marek Ujlaky and then pulled ahead with goals from Roman Cerepkai, Tadeas Hajovsky, and Nino Marcelli.
Baker also featured in Wales' previous match, a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic in a crucial qualifier. The Czechs needed a win to secure a play-off spot ahead of Wales in their final group game, which they achieved with a 3-0 victory over Lithuania, finishing second in Group I behind Denmark.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Nick Townsend faced a tough challenge for Antigua and Barbuda, playing the full match in their Concacaf Nations League encounters against the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately, his team suffered back-to-back 5-0 defeats, enduring relentless pressure as the Dominican Republic registered 25 shots on goal.
In the youth ranks, Harri Pugh represented Wales U17s in friendly matches against France and Portugal. The talented 16-year-old played in a 1-1 draw with Portugal on October 9 before featuring in a narrow 3-1 loss to France two days later.
