Newport County make the trip to AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night in Sky Bet League Two (7.45pm).
Ahead of the Exiles’ trip to south-west London, take a read of our away matchday guide.
Where is Cherry Red Records Stadium?
The Cherry Red Records stadium is located at:
Plough Lane,
London
SW17 0NR
Where will Newport fans be during the game?
Travelling Exiles will be seated in the Cherry Red Records Stand.
How do I get to Plough Lane?
Newport fans have several options for getting to AFC Wimbledon this weekend. The following are going to be the best ways:
Car
Plough Lane, also known as the Cherry Red Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is around 140 miles away from Rodney Parade. Depending on traffic, this journey may take between two and a half to three hours. Given its location in South West London, we would recommend hitting the road to give yourself plenty of time to avoid traffic.
Train
Fans can take direct trains to London Paddington from Newport but will then need to make their way to Plough Lane from there.
There are several ways you can do this. You will need to take the district line from Paddington to Wimbledon Park, and then either walk to the stadium, which will take around 20 minutes, or go to Southfields and take the 493 bus in the direction of Tooting Graveney, jumping off at Wimbledon Station.
Your journey time from arriving at Paddington to Plough Lane will be around an hour, so you should factor this in when considering which train to take.
Can I park near the stadium?
Parking around Plough Lane is extremely limited on match-days. Where possible, supporters are advised to travel by public transport as parking spaces cannot be guaranteed.
You may wish to consult Merton Borough Council and Wandsworth Borough Council websites for parking restrictions around the Plough Lane area. Wandsworth operates additional matchday parking restrictions in the CPZs near to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
How far is the train station to AFC Wimbledon?
As we’ve already mentioned, Exiles taking the train directly from Newport to London will arrive at London Paddington. From here, they can take the District Line to Wimbledon Park and then walk to Plough Lane. This will take around 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, you can head to Southfields and take the 493 bus to WImbledon Station (Stop SL).
If you are heading into London from a different direction, then Earlsfield Station (trains to Waterloo and the South West), Haydons Road (Thameslink and Southern trains to the South Coast, Central London and Hertfordshire) and Tooting Broadway (Tube Northern Line) are all within walking distance of Plough Lane.
Where to eat and drink locally
Away-friendly pubs are few and far between around Plough Lane. However, AFC Wimbledon does offer fantastic food and drink services in and around the stadium.
Fans who arrive to the stadium near Earslfield Station will have a number of pubs they can choose from. The Earsfield, The Halfway House, and the Wandle have all been known to welcome away fans in the past.
If you arrive in London with enough time, you may have time to explore some of the other local areas. Tooting Market is an excellent spot that is around a 25 minute walk from the stadium.
Stadium opening times
Away supporters can arrive 90 minutes before kick off. Supporters must enter the stadium via the designated entrance for their stand which is indicated on their ticket. Additionally, fans will be required to go through security where they may be searched.
