Cameron Evans | We fancy ourselves against anyone at home

Cameron Evans

Cameron Evans says Newport County will relish putting their strong home form to the test when they take on Chesterfield FC on Friday tonight.

The Exiles have enjoyed a positive start to the season at Rodney Parade, winning five of their last seven home matches across all competitions and scoring a total of twelve goals.

This impressive run has helped them secure a comfortable mid-table position in League Two, with Chesterfield also navigating the league successfully since their promotion from the National League.

The Spireites have only suffered two defeats this season, boasting three wins and six draws from their first eleven matches.

However, Evans is confident that the unwavering support from the Amber Army will continue to inspire the Exiles as they aim to build on their impressive home performances.

“Chesterfield will be a tough opposition, but we fancy ourselves against anyone at home,” said the defender.

“Since the start of the season we’ve really tried to make Rodney Parade a fortress and we want to continue that on Friday.

“When we play at home it's a different feeling, the fans are amazing and are always the 12th man that push us on each game.

“We’ll just keep doing what we have been doing at home and stick to our processes, and hopefully we can get the three points.

“We'll go into the game with an element of confidence from our recent home form, but we know it will be tough.”

The 23-year-old defender, who joined County from Taunton Town in the summer, has quickly become a valuable asset to the team this season, netting his first EFL goal last month, helping the Exiles secure a 2-1 victory over high-flyers Crewe Alexandra.

Since reuniting with his former Swansea City coach, Nelson Jardim, he has relished the opportunity to work under his guidance. Embracing life at Newport County, he is eager to contribute and demonstrate his versatility to help the team succeed.

“I’ve really enjoyed being at the club so far this season. It’s a great club to be at and I’m loving it so far,” added the former Wales under-19 international.

"I just want to play as many games as I can and help the team pick up as many points as we can.

“Whether it's right-back, left-back, centre-back I just want to be on the pitch and I'll do whatever is best for the team.

"From young I was always a centre-half but I've been comfortable in other positions, playing full-back and centre midfield. I've enjoyed it at right-back.

“We've been unlucky with injuries so I just want to stay fit and available to put a shift in wherever I am needed.”
