Bryn Morris believes Newport County are making positive strides under head coach Nelson Jardim, highlighting the positives despite their 3-1 defeat at Bradford City.
Late goals from Jamie Walker and Bobby Pointon secured the win for the Bantams on Monday night, following Kyle Hudlin’s equaliser, which had briefly cancelled out Andy Cook’s first-half opener.
However, despite the setback at Valley Parade, Morris remains positive about the Exiles' development on the pitch and insists there's still a lot to come from his side in the coming games.
“The lads are really disappointed with the result, but there are plenty of positives to take from the performance,” said the midfielder.
“At 1-1 so late in the game, we probably needed a bit more game management, but I thought we did really well in the second half.
“There were a couple of moments that swung the game in their favour, but we had a really strong spell in the second half and created some good chances. There’s a lot to be encouraged by from our side.
“We knew it would be tough; Bradford are a strong team and it’s never easy coming here. We’re disappointed because of the high standards we’ve set for ourselves over the last few games.
“Tonight was all about key moments. We had our chances, but they made the most of theirs.”
Looking ahead to the weekend, Morris added: “We have to take confidence from this performance going into Saturday’s game against Harrogate. We’ll roll up our sleeves and go again.
“I feel like we’re really starting to gel as a squad. There was a big turnover in the summer, but you can see things are gradually coming together now.
“Overall, I think it’s been a decent start - one we would have taken at the beginning of the season. We’re improving every week, and there’s definitely more to come from us.”
