Bobby Kamwa believes the hard work he has put in to improving his composure in front of goal is paying off after his stunning hat-trick against MK Dons.
The 24-year-old played a starring role in the Exiles’ 6-3 victory as they extended their unbeaten run to five matches and earned their first win in six games.
The pick of Kamwa’s hat-trick was his remarkable effort for his second goal of the afternoon.
With the score at 4-1 following half-time, Kamwa’s darting run in behind was met by Jephcott who slid the winger through on goal.
Using his strength, power and searing pace, the no.7 took the ball away from his defender before beating Tom McGill in the MK Dons goal with a instinctive chip.
It was Kamwa’s third goal for the club before adding another one late on and – having admitted he needed to improve on keeping his calm in the final third – he felt the manner in which he finished off his devastating run showed the strides he is making.
“First and foremost, it felt amazing to play at home in front of our fans again,” Kamwa said.
“We’ve known that a performance like this was coming after the last few games; we just didn’t know when. But we’re thrilled it came today.
“Leading up to this match, we had a really strong week of training. The gaffer made sure we were clear on everything, and the tactics were well set out. We just went out there and executed the plan to perfection.
“To succeed in games like this, it’s all about sticking to the basics. Today, we did just that. When you focus on the fundamentals, you get rewarded – and that’s exactly what happened today.
“I’ve never been in a game like that before. Two hat-tricks in one match… I’m almost lost for words. It was an incredible feeling to score my first-ever hat-trick, but to see two players achieve that in the same game was something really special.
“Coming into the game, I just had a feeling it was going to be one of those days. I could sense there would be goals, and luckily, it fell my way."
He added: "Personally, stats have always been important to me, especially when it comes to my end product.
“Over the past few weeks, I’ve really focused on improving that aspect of my game. It’s great to see the hard work paying off today, and I’m hoping there will be many more goals to come.
“I also want to thank the gaffer for trusting me. There have been times when things weren’t going my way, and it hasn’t been easy. But he’s stuck by me, and I’m grateful for that. I’m just glad I could repay his faith.
“I’ve been working a lot on my finishing and crossing in training, focusing on the areas where I know I can improve. If I can keep getting that right, I know what level I’m capable of playing at. And when the team performs like we did today, we can definitely take things to another level.
"People don’t always give us credit, but we’re determined to go about our business quietly and prove ourselves.
“Like I’ve said before, we’re really gelling together now and finding our rhythm. We’re just focused on climbing up the table and taking it one game at a time.”
