Newport County Under-12s showcased their talent and determination on Thursday, emerging victorious at the prestigious City Select Sevens Festival.
Competing against strong academy sides including Sheffield Wednesday, Motherwell, Shamrock Rovers, and Premier League champions Manchester City, the young Exiles seized a fantastic opportunity to test themselves on a big stage.
After finishing second in the group stage, County’s Under-12s delivered a statement performance in the semi-finals, edging past Manchester City 1-0. The momentum carried into the final, where they produced another composed display to claim a 2-0 win over Motherwell.
Reflecting on the experience, Academy Manager Luke Hussey said: “Beyond the results, the players embraced the full experience—playing at top-class facilities, testing themselves against strong opposition, and soaking up the energy of an elite environment. The day offered valuable learning, unforgettable memories, and plenty of smiles.
"We are incredibly proud of them. Huge credit to the entire group for representing Newport County with pride and professionalism, both on and off the pitch.”
It was a special day that will live long in the memory for the players, staff, and supporters of our academy.
