Newport County midfielder Aaron Wildig has signed a new one-year deal that will extend his stay with the club until the end of June 2025.
The 32-year-old’s existing deal had been due to expire later this month, but he has put pen to paper which will see him bring up his third season in NP19.
Last season, Wildig made 41 appearances for the Exiles and is now closing in on 100 club appearances having featured 73 times for County in total, scoring 8 goals.
An important performer in Black and Amber, his experience and nous have proved invaluable over recent seasons, having joined from League Two rivals Morecambe in June 2022.
Wildig came through the ranks at Cardiff City and made his debut for Dave Jones in 2009 and was an unused substitute in that season’s Championship play-off final defeat to Blackpool.
He made 21 appearances for the Bluebirds before having a loan spell at Hamilton in Scotland and then moving to Shrewsbury and helping them to League Two promotion in 2012.
His move to Morecambe came in 2015 and he went on to make 248 appearances for the Lancashire club, 27 of them in his last season.
After signing the new deal, Wildig said: “I’ve really pleased to get the deal sorted. It’s been agreed for over a week or so now, so I’m delighted to come in and get it finalised.
“Two years I’ve been at the club now and it’s going in a good direction. I think it wants to push on and be successful, and I want to be a part of that too.
“I’m an experienced player, especially at this level, having been involved in over three promotions. For me now, it’s about hitting the ground running and getting as fit as possible.
"Hopefully, we can dig deep as a team and have a very good season.”
