Southampton loanee, Lewis Payne has been nominated for the EFL Goal of the Month award for December.
The nominated goal was a sweetly taken volley against Forest Green Rovers to bring the Exiles ahead in the tie on Boxing day.
The Exiles found themselves 2-0 down to the Rovers after just 33 minutes on the clock on Boxing Day. Newport turned it around in the second-half though, as a quick-fire brace from Will Evans evened out the scoring, followed by a sweetly taken volley from Payne to set the Exiles up to take the three-points. Bryn Morris cleverly floated the ball towards the wing-back who struck towards the back-post, much to the Exiles' delight the net buldge.
Payne shared his views on his first league goal: "I was aiming for the back-post," he began.
"I put it into the danger area and it ended up in the back of the net, so I'll take it.
"Even if someone ended up getting on the end of it, I would've been pleased."
Lewis Payne is amongst the likes of Macauley Langstaff (Notts County), Scott Malone (Gillingham) and Abo Eisa (Grimsby) in contention for the award, you can vote for your favourite goal HERE.
