Manager Graham Coughlan says his Newport County side showed both sides of their game to secure an impressive 3-0 victory over Walsall.
In a clinical first-half performance, Bryn Morris, Will Evans and Harry Charsley were all on target as the Exiles recorded a fourth straight league win and a clean sheet in Sky Bet League Two.
“I thought our performance in the first 20 minutes was outstanding,” began Coughlan.
“It’s probably the best 20 minutes we’ve had since I’ve come to the club, so fair play to the lads. It was front-foot football and the goals were really, really good and well-worked.
“We got a slight deflection with the first goal but Will Evans’ individual goal, just brilliant. That was Premier League quality. If that happens in the Premier League or international football, that’s across Sky Sports every hour. It was an outstanding goal.
“I was just really pleased with us in the first half but let’s just say It was a professional performance In the second half. They had two or three opportunities, Nick [Townsend] had to make one save but that was it. Walsall have been flying especially at home, and this is a tough, tough place to come to.
“We knew it was going to be tough coming here so I’m really pleased with the lads because they showed both sides of their game today. Clinical first half and professionalism in the second half. We were professional and they carried out the instructions - everyone to a man did well.
“I’m pleased for the lads, the club and the fans. They [the fans] were brilliant today and it goes without saying. The numbers that they brought today were top class and you could see that from the celebrations with Seb and Will at the end there. Hopefully, we can see a lot more of that but I thought our fans were fantastic.
“It’s a good sign to beat teams above you in the league, but it’s still only three points today. 40 points going into the game today now 43, that doesn’t put us on 47 or 50. It’s nowhere near 57 and that’s our target.”
After an impressive run of form - seven games undefeated in the league - County return to league action on Tuesday night as Notts County make the journey to South Wales.
And Coughlan says he is expecting another tough test in midweek.
“It’s another real tough one on Tuesday night,” added the Exiles boss.
“They’re all tough games in this division, nothing is easy but we will go into Tuesday with a little bit of momentum.
“We’ll have confidence in midweek too and we’re really looking forward to it as a group. Hopefully, the fans can come out in their numbers again and help us out. It’s a great patch of form and we want to continue it on Tuesday.”
