Exiles on the Road | Grimsby Town Away Day Guide

After a busy Easter period, there is no rest for Newport fans as we hit the road once again this weekend.

On Saturday, we make the long trip north to take on Dave Artell’s Grimsby Town. Making your way to Cleethorpes is never the easiest of tasks, which is why we’ve put together this handy Grimsby Town away day guide to make your life a little easier.

Where is Blundell Park?

Blundell Park is located at:

Where will Newport fans be during the game?

Exiles fans will be situated in The Osmond Stand which is based at one end of the ground and opposite the pontoon Stand. This stand predominately houses visiting supporters and can accommodate a maximum of 1,884 supporters.

How do I get to Blundell Park?

Getting to Grimsby on Saturday is going to take a long time. The following are the best ways of getting to the game:

Car

Blundell Park is a whopping 244 miles from Rodney Parade, making it one of the longest away days of the season. Depending on traffic and breaks, the drive will take around 4 and a half hours.

Train

Getting to Grimsby away by train this weekend will be nearly impossible from Newport.

Industrial action is set to take place over the weekend, causing major delays and cancellations across the UK. As it stands, the earliest it would be possible to arrive at Cleethorpes from Newport would be 14:44, which means missing the kick-off.

You can find out more about the weekend’s industrial action here.

Coach

With train strikes disrupting Saturday’s game, we recommend taking the NCAFC Supporter’s Club to ensure a more relaxing Saturday afternoon.

Can I park near the stadium?

Some match-day parking is available at Grimsby, but it is extremely limited. The Grimsby away day guide advises people to arrive early to take advantage of any street parking that might be available. The club also notes that some parking restrictions will be in place in the area, so it asks supporters to be respectful of these.

Blundell Avenue (DN35 7PT), Tiverton Street (DN35 7PP), and Lovett Street (DN35 7EA) have all had parking spaces on previous visits. Of course, fans should be aware that they are parking at their own risk if they use residential parking areas.

How far is the train station to Grimsby Town?

The nearest train station to Grimsby Town is Cleethorpes, which is about a mile away. Depending on your pace, walking will take around 25 minutes.

Alternatively, fans can take busses 3, 9, or 10 from Cross Street station and get off at Imperial Avenue. This will take about 5 minutes. You will then be a couple of minutes walk from Blundell Park.

Where to eat and drink locally

Grimsby is one of the few stadiums in League Two to have a dedicated away supporters bar, Scotties.

To gain access to Scotties, you will need to enter the ground first, with the bar being located inside the Osmond Stand. Fans are welcome to donate memorabilia to the bar if they would like to, with items from other clubs being on display to help fans feel welcome.

The Mariners Trust also runs a Family Fan Zone, which allows fans to mingle before the game and discuss the season's highs and lows and the upcoming 90 minutes.

Match Highlights | Newport County v Grimsby Town

We last met Grimsby in December, a little over a week before Christmas. The game was an end-to-end affair in blisteringly cold conditions at Rodney Parade. We would take the lead late into the second half, with Omar Bogle grabbing the opener in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, an in-form Danny Rose would pull one back for the Mariners in the 78th minute, ensuring the points were shared.
