Kiban Rai is confident that Newport can carry the momentum from Colchester result into Harrogate clash.
Rai, who came on in the 73rd minute against Colchester described the affair as an exciting one to be a part of: “I wanted to get out there (on the pitch) and help the team, I thought I did that both on and off the ball,” explained Rai.
“The most important thing about Tuesday night was the result, it was a big win and hopefully we can take that into tomorrow now when we face Harrogate.”
It wasn’t a straightforward 17 minute run out for Rai though, in the 88th minute Arthur Read of Colchester United was sent off for an off the ball incident between himself and Rai which earned himself a straight red card from referee Lewis Smith. Rai though, was understanding of the incident: “I obviously wasn’t expecting it, but I can understand his (Read’s) frustration’s at that time in the game.
“It’s football and it’s part and parcel of the game, you just get on with it,” stated Rai.
Rai will be naturally looking to add to his goal tally in the upcoming games taking advantage of the relentless October schedule, particularly after netting his first professional goal against Premier League outfit, Brentford in round two of the league cup: “After I scored, it was surreal.
“My friends and family around me do their best to ensure I stay level-headed while supporting me, so that I don’t get carried away.
“Even the staff, they know what it’s like, they’ve been on this ‘journey’ before, particularly the manager and Joe. They remind me to stay neutral, not be overwhelmed, keep my head down and focus.”
The striker is keen to encourage others coming through the academy system and former peers that hard work does pay off, and there is opportunities there to be taken: “Everyday in training is an opportunity to impress.
“I’ve come on in the last two games and hopefully I can continue doing well and taking my chances when they come, so I’d say there is always opportunity, but you have to take those opportunities when they present themselves.”
Kiban will be looking to make a mark on the pitch tomorrow afternoon when the Exiles face Harrogate Town at Rodney Parade. You can secure your tickets here for the League Two clash.
