After three successive one-all draws against Grimsby, Bradford, and AFC Wimbledon the team look to return to winning ways. After Tuesday night’s draw, assistant manager Joe Dunne said, ‘I think character is what has gotten us the points on the board… we’ll look at the positives for sure, because there was a lot of positives tonight, particularly in the second half’.
Tranmere, however lost their last match against Gillingham in a battle that ended in 2-0 to the hosts. Manager Micky Mellon said in his post-match ‘We’d have expected more from our Tranmere team and that wasn’t a Tranmere team today’. Tranmere looking to bounce back after a run of relatively inconsistent form.
Our Gaffer Graham Coughlan spoke in his pre-match interview about wanting to turn the ‘draws into wins.’ He added, ‘I’d like to keep more clean sheets, and I’d like to score more goals and they’ve got to be the targets for us, between now and the end of the season’. When asked about the Tranmere fixture he went on to say, ‘Well I think we know, Tranmere are one of the bigger clubs in the division… they’ve got one of the best managers in the division in Micky Mellon, he’s been around the game and there isn’t anything he hasn’t seen.’
Tranmere gaffer, Micky Mellon spoke in this morning’s press conference when asked about Newport County he said, ‘It’ll be a tough game, it always is, there’s nothing much between most of the teams in the division’.
Tranmere Rovers sit 13th in EFL League Two.
