Newport County AFC Midfielder Scot Bennett has agreed to sign a one-year contract extension to extend his stay in South Wales until the end of the 2023/24 season. Subject to EFL approval.
Newquay born, Scot Bennett joined the Exiles back in the summer of 2016 making him the longest serving member of the County squad. Scot has amassed over 300 appearances for County. Since 2016 he has built a wealth of experience that he brings to the squad. Scot, who is predominantly a midfielder, has an incredibly defensive mindset, which is showcased in his ability to track back. As well as back tracking Scot likes to push forward with serious conviction to create opportunities for those up top. He isn’t afraid to take a shot on, netting himself 12 goals in his County career.
Scot’s time as an Exile stretches back to the 2016/17 season, meaning he has seen County in almost every light. Scot has experienced cup runs, play-off fixtures and also played a vital part in the great escape. Bennett is a crucial part of County’s identity and a big fan favourite too, particularly with the crucial tackles he makes which delight the Amber Army.
Newport County manager Graham Coughlan said this on the news “Experience is vital in the squad and Scot has been an integral part of this football club over his time here and since I’ve come through the door. Scot's a top pro and his leadership skills are so important for his role at the club. I am looking forward to working with him again next season and I’m delighted that he’s signed a new deal and committed to us next season”.
Scot spoke to the Louis from the media team on why he has signed a deal at Newport County, and this is what he had to say. “I’ve been here for so long and I don’t feel like my journey here is finished. I’ve still got a lot to give and I’m hoping we can kick on this year and have a really good season”.
