Newport County has completed the signing of promising young defender Josh Seberry from Shelbourne on a two-year deal, subject to EFL approval.
Seberry impressed manager Graham Coughlan to such an extent during a trial period at the club - which included appearances in the friendly wins over Undy and Pontypridd United – that the 19-year-old was offered professional terms at Rodney Parade.
Born in Ireland, he started to attract attention in footballing circles while playing for Drogheda United, before making the switch to Shelbourne Under-19s.
“Josh comes very highly recommended,’’ explained Coughlan. “He’s a natural athlete and has great physical attributes.
“He has a lot of learning and development ahead of him, which will take time, but he is a very exciting project and we are all really looking forward to working with him.’’
Seberry was also delighted to commit his immediate future to the League Two club: “I think the standard of training is very good,’’ he explained. “The staff are brilliant and it’s nice to have plenty of Irish links here.
“There’s a really good vibe among the team as well. I can feel myself getting quicker and sharper already, so hopefully the only way is up from here.’’
