Jonny Maxted Joins Newport County.

Newport County has added experienced goalkeeper Jonny Maxted to their ranks for the new campaign, subject to EFL approval.

Maxted has signed a deal after leaving recently promoted Northampton Town and will replace long-standing goalkeeper Joe Day after his loan move to Woking.

The 29-year-old harbours a wealth of Football League experience, including two promotions from League One and League Two.

Having started his career at Doncaster Rovers, Maxted would go on to represent Hartlepool, Forest Green Rovers, Guiseley, Accrington Stanley, and Exeter City where he was nominated for January’s 2020 EFL League Two player of the month award after keeping four consecutive clean sheets.

After 26 appearances for the Grecians between 2019 and 2021, he made the switch to Northampton Town.

Newport boss, Graham Coughlan, was thrilled to add the goalkeeper to the squad: “Jonny came in a month ago and played for us in our friendly fixture against Pontypridd. Jonny has also been training with us and has fit in really well.

“He’s an experienced goalkeeper and has been in successful changing rooms, such as recently promoted Northampton Town.

Jonny will challenge Nick, for the number one jersey in the upcoming season.”

Maxted also shared his delight in becoming an Exile: “I’m buzzing to get into the new season” Explained Jonny.

“The boys have been great with me, so I’ll fit in right away and I’m looking forward to hit the ground running.”
