Tom Nield will be the designated referee when Newport County host Grimsby Town in Sky Bet League Two this afternoon (December 16 (3pm).)
An EFL referee since 2017, Tom Nield took charge of 34 games in all competitions in the 2022/23 season, the majority coming in League One as well as three in the Japanese Second Division.
Nield was also named the referee for the recent League Two Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium between Carlisle United and Stockport County, and also has experience as a Fourth Official and Assistant Referee in the FA Sunday Cup and FA Youth Cup. More recently Nield has also been involved at Championship level too.
Other notable clashes he has been involved in include Southampton’s 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion, Salford’s first-leg win in last season’s League Two play-off semi-finals and finally and closer to home Newport's 2-0 loss to Sutton United at Rodney Parade last season.
His officiating team will consist of Paul Hodskinson (Assistant), Blake Antrobus (Assistant) and Peter Wright the Fourth Official.
