Exiles on the Road: Forest Green Rovers Away Day Guide

This Saturday, we make the short trip over the Severn Bridge to Forest Green Rovers and the Bolt New Lawn Stadium. Given how close the game is, a big crowd of Exiles is expected to fill out the away terrace. Here is all the information you need before our trip to the Cotswolds on Saturday.

Where is The Bolt New Lawn?

The Bolt New Lawn is located at:

The New Lawn

Nympsfield Road,

Nailsworth,

GL6 0ET

Where will Newport fans be during the game?

Away supporters at the New Lawn are typically located in the West Stand. This is a standing terrace that is uncovered. There is also a small terrace area towards the EESI Stand End with covered seating and standing.

How do I get to the Bolt New Lawn?

Our first piece of advice is not to search for Forest Green Rovers or Forest Green when you are looking for transport options. The club is actually located in Nailsworth, a small town in the Cotswolds. As the smallest town in the country to host a Football League club, getting to the ground can be a little tricky. These are the best ways to do it:

Car

The New Lawn is one of the closest away stadiums in the league, with the distance between there and Rodney Parade being 47 miles. This should take you around an hour if you choose to drive.

Train

There is no direct train to Nailsworth. Instead, fans will need to take the train to Stroud and take the 63 bus, which runs every half an hour and goes to the stadium. The quickest route to Stroud from Newport is by taking the train to Swindon and swapping. The journey takes around an hour and a half, depending on transfers.

Coach

The easiest way to get to Forest Green is by taking one of the official supporter's coaches arranged by the NCAFC Supporter’s Club

Can I park near the stadium?

No. Parking around Forest Green’s stadium is limited and difficult to find. If you don’t want to spend your Saturday afternoon driving around the Cotswolds, we recommend taking the  Park & Ride service from the South Entrance of Renishaw on Stroud Road (postcode: GL5 5HA). This will cost you £3, and there are typically plenty of spaces. The bus will drop you off right outside the stadium.

How far is the train station to Forest Green?

Forest Green Rovers is one of the few clubs in the Football League not to be located near a train station. Fans must take the train to Stroud and take the Number 63 bus to get to the ground.

Where to eat and drink locally

Forest Green offers a friendly away supporters bar located at the front of the ground. This is typically open three hours before kick-off and offers a selection of drinks and food for fans to enjoy.

Unfortunately, there are no pubs or cafes located very close to the ground. However, if you have time before the game, there are some nice places to eat and drink in the town of Nailsworth.

Away fans should remember that Forest Green Rovers only stocks vegan food and drink options in the stadium.

Last time out

Forest Green returns to League Two following a solitary season in League One. However, we did meet them in the Football League Trophy group stages last season. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline, with Will Evans’s late goal not enough to overcome goals from Ben Stevenson and Bryan Fiabema.

Our last league encounter with Forest Green came in March 2022 at Rodney Parade. The visiting team were flying high at the top of the league, but they were held to a draw in an entertaining 1-1 draw. An early goal from Finn Azaz was cancelled out by a second-half strike from Jack Aitchison.
