This Tuesday night, we hit the road again in search of three points when we head North to Crewe Alexandra and The Mornflake Stadium. Read on to find out everything you need to know about making the trip up to Cheshire.
Where is The Mornflake Stadium?
Crewe’s stadium can be found at:
The Mornflake Stadium
Gresty Rd,
Crewe
CW2 6EB
Where will Newport fans be during the game?
Exiles will be seated in the Whitby Morrison Ice Cream Van Stand on the side of the stadium. The stand holds 1,680 supporters. Gresty Road itself holds 10,153.
How do I get to Crewe?
There are several options for getting to The Mornflake Stadium. These will be the easiest ways to get there from Newport.
Car
The distance from Rodney Parade to The Mornflake Stadium is around 144 miles and will take around two and a half hours, depending on traffic and stops. Given that the game is a late kick-off, you should allow time for evening traffic.
Train
There is a direct train from Newport to Crewe that runs regularly. However, the latest direct train back to Newport is at 21:20. Alternatively, you can take the 22:20 to Shrewsbury and catch the connecting 23:09 to Newport. This could be a squeeze, and given the late kick-off times and the newly extended stoppage time rules, you would probably need to stay the night in Crewe or nearby, which is likely not convenient.
If you are looking to stay for the night, then the following hotels are available near the stadium:
- The Waverley Hotel, 9, Pedley Street, Crewe, CW2 7AA
- Holiday Inn Express Crewe 3-star hotel, Macon Way, Crewe, CW1 6DR
- Crewe Central Hotel Premier Inn, Weston Road, Crewe, CW1 6FX
- Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel 3-star hotel, Nantwich Rd, Crewe, CW2 6DN
Coach
If you don’t fancy spending the night in Crewe or trying to beat the evening traffic on the M6, then you can take one of the Newport County supporters coaches.
Can I park near the stadium?
Yes. Even better- you can park at the stadium! Crewe is one of the few grounds that provide a pay and display car park. There are 564 spaces available, operating on a first-come-first-serve basis.
If this is full, on-street parking is available at a nearby industrial park. The Weston Road Industrial Estate displays a sign for away fan parking and is around a 10-minute walk to the stadium.
How far is the train station to Crewe?
Crewe is famous for its railway station, and thankfully, it is located within a few short minutes of the stadium. When you leave the station, you will instantly be greeted with directions to The Mornflake Stadium and a swarm of fans heading in the same direction.
Where to eat and drink locally
Away fans are welcomed in the Railway Men Bar & Lounge, located at the stadium. It is a friendly venue that serves hot food and drinks to fans pre-match. The venue opens at 5:30 pm and shows live sports to help get you in the mood for the match.
If you want to grab some pre-match food, Benny’s Fish and Chip shop across from the stadium has proven to be a hit with fans over the years.
Last time out
You don’t need to dig deep into the history books to find our last match against Crewe. We battled the Alex in an exciting 2-2 draw on the final day of last season.
A thrilling game saw Omar Bogle’s 91st-minute goal equalled by a strike from Lachlan Brook just two minutes later.
Brook was also on the scoresheet for Crewe on our last trip to The Mornflake Stadium, but his early goal was not enough to earn the home side any points. Former exile Cameron Norman snatched a goal for us in the 62nd minute before Offrande Zanzala grabbed his first goal for the club in the 85th minute to send the away end into the rafters and secure a 2-1 win.
