A tough evening at the Mornflake Stadium as County fall to defeat against Crewe

A fixture that was very much a tale of two halves with County controlling the majority of the first 45 and Crewe the second ends in defeat for the Exiles.

County started the game with urgency and determination and looked to find an early opener to set the pace via Charsley but the ball was a tad late and he was offside.

There was a very early penalty shout in the 4th minute from County as Wildig was shoved in the area. Although there were appeals from players, fans and on the side lines the referee waved ‘play on’.

Crewe started to come into the game with a chance in the 6th minute when Cooney swung in the ball towards their striking pair but only as far as Jameson who cleared any imminent danger.

The deadlock was broken just a minute later when Demetriou managed to poke the ball into the net after a scramble in the County box.

Various chances presented themselves for both teams, but it wasn’t until the 20th minute when County striker Will Evans netted himself his fourth in three games. The ball was kicked high into the air and Evans jumped to contest the ball with Crewe keeper Davies and knocked it into the net to equalise.

In the 42nd minute County Manager Graham Coughlan was forced into making a relatively early change as Kyle Jameson went down injured, Josh Seberry joined the pitch to replace him.

Although both sides looked to add to the score sheet before the halfway point, neither were successful, and the half time whistle was blown.

Half time.

Crewe kicked off the second half looking to instantly double their lead, but the County defence made sure there was no way through with Delaney clearing away any danger.

Crewe eventually did double their lead in the 54th minute when the ball was crossed in from a corner and once again fell to Mickey Demetriou who slotted it home to put County behind.

Just eight minutes later Crewe were on the attack again, the ball was poked into the County box, Delaney tried to clear it but caught the attacker, the referee awarded Crewe the penalty which was then converted by Long.

The momentum carried on in Crewe’s favour when Nevitt netted his first for the club in the 70th minute making the score 4-1.

Despite the scoreline County refused to be beat, this was evident when Charsley found space down the right to drive into and in the 74th minute blasted the ball past Davies to make the score 4-2.

Graham Coughlan made three changes to freshen up his sides legs and although County made some chances to add to the scoreline, none would hit the net.

Full Time.
