On Saturday the 29th of April, Newport County AFC travel to Gillingham for County’s penultimate SkyBet League Two fixture of the 22/23 season.
Newport County will be looking to bounce back this weekend after coming out on the wrong side of a 5-goal thriller at Rodney Parade on Tuesday night against Harrogate Town. Gillingham on the other hand will be looking to make it a 4th match unbeaten to continue to climb the League Two table, recently beating the League Two confirmed Champions, Leyton Orient 2 goals to nil.
Only 1 point separates the Gills and County in the league with County in 14th and Gillingham in 15th, who will remain in the higher position come Saturday?
Looking towards the fixture Manager, Graham Coughlan said “Gillingham has always been a tough place to go, going there as a player, as a coach, as a manager, that hasn’t changed. The dynamic of Gillingham football club over the last 12 months with the influx of finances as obviously made it even tougher, so yes, you’d fully expect that with the finances and the backing that they’ve been given, you’d fully expect them to be up there and they will be one of the teams up there challenging next year, so yes, it’s a massive challenge”.
Gillingham gaffer, Neil Harris was full of praise for the Gills’ fans, and said this when asked on their last home game of the season against Newport: “We have come a long way and the feelgood factor has just been building and building. We are going to have a really good crowd and that is because there is optimism and excitement for the future.”
It’s Newport County AFC’s last away game of the 22/23 season this Saturday, let’s hear you load & proud tomorrow, Exiles, as we always do!
