Newport County AFC are delighted to announce that we have agreed an undisclosed deal with Coventry City for the transfer of defender Declan Drysdale. The move will officially go through on June 10 when the transfer window opens.
The Birkenhead-born defender started his career at Tranmere Rovers, making his first-team debut at the age of 17 and was part of the squad that earned promotion back to the Football League in 2018 before signing for Coventry.
After loan spells with Solihull Moors and Gillingham, Declan signed for Cambridge, also on loan, and helped the U’s to promotion to League One in 2021.
Last season, he spent time on loan at Ross County and played his part in getting County a top-half finish in the Scottish Premiership.
On securing the signing of Declan, Newport manager James Rowberry said: “Declan at 22 already has two promotions on his CV and has really good experience within senior football for his age.
“He brings a physicality and technical ability to our back line as well as showing he can be a leader. I’m excited to be working with Declan. I’m sure you’ll give Declan a warm welcome to our club.”
Welcome to Newport, Declan!
