County played two pre-season fixtures over two days this weekend, with a 4-0 win at Weston-Super-Mare being followed up by a 0-0 draw with Torquay.
Newport gaffer James Rowberry played two different XIs in each fixture as the group got to the stage of having a full 90 minutes of match action following sets of 45 and 60 in the summer's previous pre-season friendlies.
Lewis Collins, Chanka Zimba, Harrison Bright and Matt Dolan all scored in a 4-0 win at Weston while Newport were held to a 0-0 at Torquay's Plainmoor.
WESTON-SUPER-MARE
County got off to an electric start in Weston-Super-Mare, as Lewis Collins opened the scoring after just three minutes on Friday night.
Collins was played clean through on goal, took the ball in his stride and slotted in low off the right post and in for an early 1-0 lead.
Both sides would have their next chance as direct free-kicks, with Dayle Grubb curling wide of Nick Townsend's goal with his while Matt Dolan saw his saved by Weston keeper Luke Purnell.
Chanka Zimba put Newport 2-0 up in the 29th minute with a simple tap-in. After having a shot blocked, Aaron Lewis was charged down by Purnell so he opted for the squared pass to Zimba who slotted into an empty net for his second of pre-season.
It was 3-0 just before the half-time break as two academy graduates combined. Lewys Twamley's deep cross from the left was emphatically slammed home from close range by Harrison Bright and County had a commanding lead at the halfway mark.
Newport started the second half with the same vigour as how they finished the first, with Bright hitting the post with an effort from six yards out after a corner from the right.
Fellow academy graduate Jack Karadogan shot wide soon after while another youngster, Kiban Rai, had a strike from 20 yards saved.
Skipper Dolan rounded off the scoring in the 84th minute with a flicked header from Robbie Willmott's left-sided corner.
Newport County: Nick Townsend, Harrison Bright, Matt Dolan (C), Priestley Farquharson (Jack Karadogan '45, Kiban Rai '68), Joe Woodiwiss, Aaron Lewis, Robbie Willmott, James Waite, Lewys Twamley (Evan Cadwallader '62), Chanka Zimba, Lewis Collins (Tom Stokes '62)
TORQUAY UNITED
Newport fashioned their first chance at Torquay seven minutes in, but Offrande Zanzala struck narrowly wide when under pressure from a Torquay defender.
Three minutes later, the Exiles went close again with Adam Lewis' right-sided free-kick being curled just wide of the near post.
The sweltering heat in Devon led to a scheduled drinks break in each half and made County's work that bit harder in a difficult conditions.
Rowberry's men did come close again just after the half-hour mark through when Adam Lewis' cross aimed at Omar Bogle was too high both for Bogle and his marker, but that only led to Cameron Norman ghosting in behind and having an effort go across the face of goal and narrowly wide.
County's best chance of the first half came right at the end with the ever-active Adam Lewis having a shot brilliantly tipped out for a corner from just inside the area.
Newport started the second half quickly, with the ball being worked out to captain Mickey Demetriou on the left, but he fired wide from outside the left of the box.
Just under 10 minutes later, Aaron Wildig headed over Adam Lewis' cross from the left and soon after Joe Day was needed to make a superb diving save to his right to keep it 0-0 at the other end.
Another fine save kept Newport at bay 20 minutes from time, as Bogle's powerful hit was tipped onto the bar and over after his initial free-kick came back off the wall and back into his path.
That was as close as County came though and the game ended as how it started.
