Newport County are delighted to announce the signing of James Waite from Penybont FC.
Waite has penned an 18-month contract, keeping him at Rodney Parade until the summer of 2023.
After being handed professional terms with Cardiff City, Waite spent time on loan at Hereford, Weston-Super-Mare and Waterford before moving on to Penybont in 2021.
The 22-year-old has represented Wales at Under-19 and Under-21 level, playing three games across the two age groups.
On the signing, manager James Rowberry said: “I’ve known James since he was 13 when I worked with him at Cardiff for eight years. He’s a local lad who knows what it means to play for our club. He’ll add value and excitement to our attacking areas of the pitch. I’m delighted to welcome James to our club.”
Newport County AFC would like to thank Penybont for their assistance in facilitating this move so that James could have the opportunity offered by Newport to advance his ambition to have a successful career as a professional footballer and we hope both clubs can continue their good relationship moving forward.
James will wear the number 26 shirt at County this season.
