Newport County AFC is delighted to announce that Joe Ledley's iconic beard has been sponsored for the remainder of the season in a club first.
The Wales international, who joined the Exiles for the rest of the campaign after penning a short-term contract at Rodney Parade, has become the first County player to have his facial hair sponsored.
Ledley started growing his legendary beard in Wales' Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with the aim of shaving it if he helped his country reach their first major tournament in 58 years.
But after sealing qualification for the tournament in France, the midfielder, who was part of the squad that saw Wales reach the semi-finals of the competition, opted to put the trimmer aside.
The Welshman's beard has since earned cult status and even had a Twitter account dedicated to it, and it will now be sponsored by County supporter Matthew Fletcher-Jones for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
Fletcher-Jones reached out to the club to question whether the beard was available to sponsor following the midfielder's arrival at Rodney Parade - and his wishes have now been granted.
Fletcher-Jones said: "I’m delighted that the club has signed a national legend in Joe and it’s a great honour to sponsor the most iconic facial hair in Welsh football."
Joe's home, away, and third shirts have also been sponsored by Jonny Burnard, Sweet Dreams Events and William Downs respectively.
