PICTH UPDATES

Extensive pitch and stadium development work at Rodney Parade continues at pace with a new irrigation system starting to be installed.

Contractors, South Wales Sports Grounds, have completed the first phase of the high-tech system with sprinklers all prepped. They will be installed into the pitch in the coming weeks.

The playing surface continues to be raised back up with a gritstone layer now clearly visible across the entire pitch area.

The next phase will see over 2,500 tonnes of sand spread across the entire pitch area.

Home dressing room work, that will double the floor space, is currently ongoing while new flooring in the Physio Room has now been completed.

Jon Raymond, Facilities Manager at Dragons Rugby, said: “It’s great to see the project gather pace and it’s clear to see the progress now being made right across the pitch area.

“The first phase of the irrigation system is complete, and we’ve begun the exciting process of rebuilding the pitch back up, with huge amounts of sand the next thing to go down.”
