Newport County AFC have completed the signing of striker Jake Scrimshaw on a loan deal from AFC Bournemouth.
Scrimshaw, who becomes the Exiles’ third signing of the January transfer window after the arrivals of Owen Windsor and Jack Evans, will join County on loan until the end of the season from the Sky Bet Championship club.
The striker joined Bournemouth in 2015 and has since experienced time out on loan with Poole Town, Eastleigh and, more recently, fellow Sky Bet League Two outfit Walsall.
He spent the first half of the 2020/21 campaign out on loan with the latter and made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Saddlers, netting his first professional goals during Walsall’s 3-2 victory over Port Vale in December.
The 20-year-old, who was born on the Isle of Wight, will wear the number 27 jersey during his time with the Exiles.
Scrimshaw said: “I’m buzzing to get started. I met the lads today and got all the papers signed, so I’m looking forward to playing for the club now.
“I played against Newport when I was with Walsall and I liked the way that they played. They always look to play football and I think that will suit my game.
“When I found out about the club’s interest, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.”
Manager Michael Flynn added: “Jake is someone who I have kept tabs on for a while now, and he impressed us during our game against Walsall earlier this season.
“He has an unbelievable work rate and can finish well in front of goal.
“I’m pleased to be bringing him to the football club and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
