Newport County AFC have completed the signing of striker Dom Telford on a permanent deal from Plymouth Argyle, subject to international clearance.
Telford, who becomes County’s second permanent addition of the January transfer window, has signed an 18-month contract with the Exiles, running until the summer of 2022.
The striker brings a wealth of Football League experience having made more than 100 appearances across the Championship, League One and League Two.
Telford started out his career with Blackpool, where he progressed through the academy ranks before making his senior team debut in August 2014. He scored his first senior goal in only his second appearance for the Tangerines, finding the back of the net against Nottingham Forest later that year.
The 24-year-old made a permanent transfer to then-Premier League side Stoke City ahead of the 2015-16 campaign and enjoyed a loan stint with Bristol Rovers the following season. Telford made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Gas, scoring five goals and grabbing an assist for the League One club.
A move to Bury followed for the striker, who netted an impressive 14 goals and provided six assists in 48 games as the Shakers secured promotion to League One.
Telford remained in League One following his departure from Bury and was reunited with his former manager Ryan Lowe at Plymouth, who he helped to League One last term. He made 23 appearances for the Pilgrims in the first half of this season’s campaign before making the switch to the Exiles.
After completing the deal, Telford said: "I’ve played here a couple of times and it’s always a tough place to come. I love what the gaffer is all about and his philosophy, especially this season. The lads are doing really well so I’m looking forward to getting in there and helping out as much as I can.
"I’ve been in League Two twice and got promoted twice so I know what it takes. I’m feeling confident and there’s a great squad, so we’re more than capable of getting there."
Manager Michael Flynn added: "Dom has a lot of experience playing in the Football League and will bring a lot of quality to this squad. He knows what it takes to get out of this division after his promotions with Plymouth and Bury, which is why I was so keen on bringing him to the football club.
"I’m confident that his experience and quality can help us stay at the top end of the table between now and the end of the season. He’s very hungry and at a great age to kick on in his career."
