Newport County AFC midfielder Sonny Lewis has been called up to the Wales Under-17 squad for their upcoming double header against Scotland.
The 16-year-old will link up with the rest of the 19-man squad on Monday 30th August ahead of their first fixture on Thursday 2nd September before their second meeting three days later.
Lewis has previously represented Wales' younger age groups and it is the second time he has received a call-up to the under-17 squad after enjoying first-team exposure with the Exiles in recent weeks.
The midfielder was also named on the bench for the Carabao Cup win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road earlier this month
Newport County AFC Academy Manager Damien Broad said: "It's very pleasing for myself and the academy staff to see Sonny included once again in the international setup.
"I know his family and the staff are extremely proud of this achievement and the work he puts in every day.
"Sonny was unlucky to miss out last season after being included in the U16 camp to face England but he picked up an injury on camp and had to withdraw from the squad.
Broad continued: “Sonny has worked hard over the off-season to come back in top condition and has started the season well. His experiences with the first team during pre-season and attending international camps will no doubt continue to aid Sonny's development as he embarks on his scholarship with the club."
